A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land. -Franklin D. Roosevelt
Best Management Practices Training, Licensing, & Certification
Loggers and Timber Operators
The West Virginia Division of Forestry provides logging related trainings, as well as licensing and certification for operating your logging business.
Trainings
Loggers can now do their entire Best Management Practices training online through the WVU Extension portal. The WVDOF is offering this as another avenue for West Virginia’s timber operators to keep up with their certification classes and do them at their convenience. There are several modules available online. As a reminder this does not apply to new Certified Loggers. Also, all loggers certifying through online training MUST take the WV Law and BMP core module and then select any other of the available modules to make their additional 4 credits.
West Virginia State Law requires the holder of a Timber Operator License to be in compliance with other licenses or regulations specified by the State of West Virginia. Additionally, loggers in West Virginia must be certified.
To obtain a West Virginia Business Registration Number, contact the Tax Department at (304) 558-3333 or visit WV Tax Department .
The West Virginia Division of Forestry is committed to protecting, nurturing, sustaining, and promoting the wise utilization of our state’s forest resources.
